The Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Thursday 2nd June - Sunday 5th June 2022
The village came together to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the four day bank holiday weekend. Fun was had by everyone involved in the planning and those that attended an event.
Garden Trail
The streets came alive with scenes from 'The Queens' 70 years on the throne, on the front gardens and doorsteps of the residents of Little Hallingbury over the whole weekend. Despite the wind and drizzle at times, trying to destroy displays it was exciting to see the abundance of bunting, flags, flowers, postage stamps, selfie stations, tea parties and displays set up around the village for all to enjoy. The garden trail is something that we as a village would love to see happen every year as it was a huge success. Congratulations to Hatch End and Pond Fields Close for your winning entries.
Beacon Lighting
On Thursday night over 200 people gathered at the village hall to see the Beacon being lit, along with others around the country. We were honoured to have the village school children sing and perform for us, which was a perfect start to the evening.
Gaston House
Another glorious evening was had on Saturday 4th June at Gaston House grounds where we celebrated with music and dancing. By the end of the evening, it was hard to get people to stop dancing as they were having so much fun.
A hog roast, along with sausages and vegetarian option was available all evening, with many going back for more.
Afternoon Tea at the village hall
Sunday 5th June we anticipated a glorious day of afternoon tea on the grass along with festival games. Despite the weather we were still able to enjoy our afternoon and all the events the team had planned.
The village 'Bake off' competition was entered by many and the array of beautiful themed cakes 'Jewel in the crown' were astounding. The time spent making and decorating the cakes by the adults and children were spectacular. Everyone had fun judging the appearances and I know the tasting judges took their job very seriously too.
The children did incredibly with their making a crown competition and again so much time and effort was noted in them all.
Well done to our winners.
Children and adults alike, enjoyed hooking a frog, bowling, splatting a rat, stick picking, hand painting, having their selfie with the queen, watching the line dancers and most importantly eating the sandwiches and cakes provided with a lovely cup of tea.
A great time was had by everyone especially our little fire fighters who were squirting well known faces in our village with the fire hose and sponges.
A great big thank you to everyone involved in planning and to all those who attended this fabulous event to celebrate The Queen's 70 years on the throne.
